How is Mindfulness being introduced to CHS students?

 

Mindfulness Lessons are being conducted in all Health classes grades 9-12.  During these lessons students will learn what mindfulness is, how it can help them manage their emotions and daily stressors and how it can be incorporated into their daily lives. Students will have an opportunity to explore the mindfulness room at this time and learn how to utilize the room.

 

In addition, any staff or faculty member can sign up on our Mindfulness Calendar to run a class, club or meeting in this room.  Teachers may even choose to sign up on their free period to utilize this room for their own self-care!

When can I go to the Mindfulness Room? 

 

Students who feel they want to utilize this room during their free periods or when in crisis can use this safe space to recharge, reflect, take a mindful moment, regulate their emotions or de-stress. Teachers who have an interest in mindfulness and meditation have been assigned a duty within the mindfulness room in order to monitor these students.

The CHS Mindfulness room (room 188) was created to promote wellness and self care for all students, faculty and staff. This room provides a safe, calm and relaxing environment to all who enter. A variety of tools and strategies are available in the CHS Mindfulness room to help regulate emotions, recharge and destress to assist in the emotional success of all throughout the school day!

Why Mindfulness?

What can I do in the Mindfulness Room? 

 

While exploring the Mindfulness Room you will find there are a number of ways to utilize this room.  

 

First, you can choose to try meditation!  The teacher on duty can guide you through a meditation, you can choose a meditation from our meditation binder or meditations can be played on our Mindfulness Smartboard.

 

Second, you may just want to take a mindful moment to breathe…  Close your eyes, listen to the nature sounds being played and recharge.

 

Third, you will find Mindfulness coloring pages, workbooks, and card decks that can help to create the mindful minute your mind and body may need in order to bring calmness to your day.  Binders filled with mindfulness strategies are also available in this room and you will find sensory fidgets, sand tables, puzzles, inspirational quotes and more that can help achieve the emotional regulation needed to have a successful school day!
